In the sacristy, I picked up from one of the altar servers: ‘I'm really looking forward to Thursday!’ In response to my interested question about what was special about Thursday, I was told that they were travelling to Rome with their class. I looked into the smiling eyes of a teenage girl. Her friend, also from the class, was standing next to her with the same smile. In my mind, I immediately changed my sermon and addressed it primarily to the two girls. The next day I bought some sweet travel snacks and found two small crosses with 5 colours each for the continents. I lovingly packed everything up and dropped it in their letterboxes the next morning while the teenagers were at school. I received enthusiastic, totally grateful feedback from both of them, saying: ‘That really made my day! And I wanted to say one more thing: your sermons could be much longer. We always love listening to you!’
