Connected to everything

For a week, I am with my mum, who is about to turn 90 years old. Again and again we had honest, deep conversations, looking back on such a long and rich life. In addition, there was a lot of physical work to do. One morning I had the idea, to invite my mum on an afternoon pilgrimage to the small town of Werl.  Although the journey seemed too long for her - according to her age, she agreed with confidence. We thought about whom we should take with us in our hearts on the journey and called two people on the way who were suffering from illness-related restrictions. When we arrived in the pilgrimage basilica, we spent a long time in silence in front of the statue of grace - a deep moment of silent solidarity, then a short prayer together. We had prayed a rosary on the way there. Then we lit candles for all the people we had brought with us. My mum began to talk: ‘In the 70s I was here in Werl with my mum, your grandma. She was already very weak! In a crowded mass, a younger woman offered us a seat ...' Suddenly I had the impression that heaven was opening up and a deep connection with everyone and everything that is and that has ever been and what will be, can be felt! A gifted moment!  When we returned home in the evening, I felt a deep peace in my mum's heart: ‘What a beautiful day. I am deeply happy!’
