Deported, at night. They came early in the morning, knocked loudly on the door, took away the mobile phone and then everything happened very quickly. In Strasbourg, they were simply thrown out onto the street, a sick mother and her small child. Harsh and inhumane. In one message I read: ‘We had collected items for the household, school materials and toys, the girl - a primary school pupil - was able to get extra lessons in German and attend a drawing course. They wanted to get involved in our parish, where they had experienced so much love. The mother was about to be baptised. She transcribed many passages from the New Testament and I really hope that she can hold on to them now.’ This evening, once again, I place all the pain of the day in the hands of Jesus. I light a candle in silence and think of the many who have shared their pain today.
