I have been sending Christmas greetings to three elderly relatives for a few years now. Every year I waited in vain for a response. So I was all over the moon at the turn of the year when I received a message from the daughter of one of my father's cousins. She sent my mother her father's funeral announcement and wrote: "My dad had pneumonia and had to go into hospital on 24 December. Unfortunately, he died there on 27 December. He was still very happy about the Christmas postcard from your son, as he was every time he received post from Rome. In the meantime, my mother has also passed away.
