A simple cross

A moving experience reached me by mail: "I met a boy with schizophrenia who was at odds with God.... He felt abandoned by Him. I asked him why he thought that way? He told me very personally about his family history, and I could see that there was much pain and many wounds in his soul. We became good friends and in good faith I sent him a small cross that had been given to me after a summer camp. I wanted to let him feel that way that God loves him. At some point, however, he broke off contact with me. He didn't want to talk to me anymore. I continued to pray for him, that God would protect and guide him ... A few days ago he resumed contact. He had wanted to commit suicide, but the little cross saved him. He always had it with him and he looked at it. It moved something in him. He was given new courage to live. Now he has plans to get his driver's license and to help rebuild churches. Full of joy I felt: God is at work!“
