Shooting stars

I got out of the car, lost in thought. I just needed to quickly wrap a present and pop it round to a family’s house. That’s when I saw a boy I’d known since he was a little kid. I felt an impulse to stop and have a quick chat with him. Full of joy, he took out his earbuds and gave me a hearty handshake. He was just out for a walk. 'I sometimes go for walks like this on my own; it’s always good for thinking about what’s on my mind!' I was amazed by his maturity and let him know that. “And what have you been up to?” he asked. I’d bought a small gift for a tradesman at the DIY store and proudly showed it to him. It was a stamped sheet of metal with a cool tradesman’s saying on it. When we read it, we had a good laugh. “How lovely that we met, ” the young fellow said to me, and then went on his way.
