For the past few years, we have had a priest from Nigeria standing in for our regular priest during the holiday season. On Tuesday evening, we invited our parishioners at short notice to an ‘Evening for Africa’. Some people had prepared African food. A colourful group of people came together that evening: people from various African countries, some young people, and long-standing members of the parish. Everyone sat in a mixed group at the tables – a sight that is otherwise rarely seen in our parish. After the meal, the priest spoke about his work in Nigeria. People made spontaneous donations to support his work. He will use the donations to support families in his home country. He was very happy and grateful. How wonderful that we were able to organise this evening. New relationships have grown between us, and we have also developed a closer connection to Nigeria.
