It was hot, very hot. The heat filled the school corridors. I’d had a wonderful and rewarding time with navi4life, working with young people who were just about to sit their A-levels. The second course followed on right after that. The pupils came from over 20 countries around the world. A young man with a beard caught my eye. He quickly came to trust me. I gently asked him about his ideas for the future. He began to share his story – in front of the whole class. He had come to Germany as an unaccompanied minor at the age of eight, having lived first in a children’s home and then with a family. The question of his faith had taken root in his heart. So he had spent a year studying the Qur’an and learning Arabic. I let him know how deeply moved I was by the testimony of his honest search for God. I sensed a deep sense of joy in his eyes. As we continued with the lesson, he stood up and returned a few moments later, bringing a bottle of water and a glass. His attentive practicality touched my heart.
