‘What will this mean for me?’ I ask myself in the morning as I type the day's motto into the go4peace app: ’Set an example of overflowing love!’ I had firmly planned to attend the Priests' Day in my episcopal city. But then I learnt that my mother unexpectedly needed medical help. When I called, I immediately realised that God had chosen a different plan for my day. So I drive to my mum. We spend the whole afternoon and evening together. There's a lot to clean and put in order again. As I clean a toilet, my thoughts turn to my confreres who are at the priests' day. Later I hear that the bishop has preached about the oil for the sick and about ‘vulnerable persons’. I had followed exactly this impulse to be close to those who need help. As I say goodbye to my mum, I sense that peace and inner balance have returned to her.
